Six Effective Homemade Mouthwash

In addition to brushing and flossing, the mouthwash is the important habit in order to maintain the oral health. It kills the germs that were missed while brushing that results in healthy gums. Fresh breathe and white teeth are the side effect of the good oral hygiene. Mouthwash that contains antibacterial and antifungal components controls bad breath resulting in freshness of mouth.
 

There are varieties of mouth-wash available in the market, but homemade mouthwash has its own advantages.

Given below are the different types of homemade mouthwash, their benefits and how to make it:
 
Baking soda mouthwash: Take one cup of water, little quantity of baking soda (teaspoon), peppermint 3-4 drops and tea tree oil 3-4 drops. Put all these in glass jar and mix it properly. At the time, you want to freshen up your mouth/breath, shake the jar properly and have about 2-3 spoons for 1-2 minutes in your mouth, throw it after gargle. Baking soda is highly useful in whitening the teeth and also controls any type of infection that can take place in the mouth.
 
Mint and Honey Mouthwash: Take one cup filtered or mineral water, one tea spoon each of raw honey and lemon juice, 2-3 drops each of peppermint & spearmint essential oil, 1-2 drops of anise seed oil. First boil the water for few moments, mix all the herbs in the water, keep it about 15-20 minutes. Once chilled, strain it from clean cloth and keep in the glass bottle. Use it every day morning to refresh mouth. Can be stored for a week times
 
Disinfectant Mouthwash: It is very simple to make. Take one cup of water, add 2-3 big spoon of apple cider vinegar, mix it properly and keep in the glass bottle. Preceding using it, shake the jar properly to mix it and then take two tablespoons quantity in mouth, keep it for few moments and then throw it out.
 

 
Herbal Mouthwash: Take one glass of boiled water, 15 grams of whole cloves, 30 grams of grape root and equal quantity of rosemary. Mix it properly by keeping in metal jar throughout the night. Next day morning, strain the mixture to separate the ingredient and water. Half-full the mouth with water mixture, gargle and spit it out. Rosemary contains antioxidants like carnosic and rosmarinic acids that clean the mouth properly.
 
Cinnamon Mouthwash: Take one teaspoon cinnamon, juice of two lemons, one tablespoon honey, one teaspoon baking soda and one cup of boiled filtered water. Put everything in the bottle with tight lid and shake till everything is mixed. As and when you want to refresh your mouth, shake the bottle and take drink till half mouth is filled, gargle for a movement and spit. Cinnamon main purpose is to kill the odour making bacteria.
 
Clove Mouthwash: Take two cups of filtered boil water, 4-5 whole cloves, one table spoon rosemary springs. Put everything in the glass jar and shake it properly. After sometime strain properly and keep in the jar. You can gargle twice a day. Cloves are having anti-oxidant properties, hence help in reducing infection in the teeth.
 
Apart from the above referred homemade mouthwashes, there are various others ingredients from which you can make different sorts of mouthwashes at home by utilising different ingredients such as Aloe Vera Gel, Anise, Basil, Cardamom, Coriander, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Goldenseal, Myrrh, Oregano, Sage, Spearmint, Turmeric, Raw honey, Stevia, Glycerol and Salt.
